Now no more flight modes on board, yes you heard it right.Passengers will now be able to use Mobile phones and internet while travelling by flight. The Indian Government has come up with a solution of advanced technology and implemented a new system that can make us avail the utility of cell phones while traveling.
Mobile phone services will be allowed when aircraft are flying above an altitude of 3000 metres. Air travellers in India and also those flying over the country can now have onboard access to internet and mobile phone services with the Telecom Regulatory Autority of India(Trial) allowing in-flight-connectivity (IFC) on Friday.
The Divisional Vice-President Customer Experience (IFEC), Emirates, Patrick Brannelly, said, “The TRAI recommendation to allow in-flight Wi-Fi and mobile services on flights within the Indian airspace is good news for our customers.”
In 2017, near 10 million customers used Wi-Fi, on that note Brannelley said, “The numbers are increasing month-on-month. In December 2017 alone, we had unprecedented 950,000 connections from our customers, and we expect this number to exceed 1 million in January 2018 and our wi-fi systems do not capture the nationality details of users, but as India is a technology-leading country with many Indians traveling through to the US, we expect they are heavy users of connectivity.”
No Indian airline, however has said if and by when they will offer IFC on their flights. Vistara said it “Continually reviews (its) product offering and this will be reviewd as part of that process.” Foreign airline which already provide IFC but had to switch the same off Indian airspace also did not say if they will now provide it on flights to, from and over India.
